philips norelco qt4070 reviewSome very interesting points came up, when I started compiling the Philips Norelco QT4070 review and the QT4050 review together in a comparison test.  In a good many of the reviews that I was reading, it was mentioned that a lot of the reviewers had previously owned the now redundant Norelco T980 beard trimmer and were using it as a benchmark.

It appears that the well loved T980 has been replaced by the Philips Norelco QT versions. The Stubble Trimmer Pro QT4022 and the two vacuum beard and stubble trimmer models, the Norelco QT4050 Plus and the Norelco QT4070 Pro.

On the whole, the reviewers liked the new Philips Norelco trimmer and it’s vacuuming feature. But the design of the comb of the QT4070 was causing concern, being too sharp and not giving an even beard trim.

Seemingly the comb on the QT4050 which is a contour following comb, is what customers thought was supplied with the more expensive QT4070 model. This was not the case.

No need to get over concerned, as it looks like Philips have now got their act together and startred to supply both comb versions in the QT4070 package. I go into more detail below about the mix up and will be concentrating this review mainly on the Philips Norelco QT4050 and the QT4070.

By concentrating on the above two models means that I will not be reviewing the Stubble Trimmer Pro QT4022, at least not on this page. This is mainly due to the fact that any information that I have gleaned so far about it, has been about users using this model for clean shaving without the guard fitted.

Clearing Up The Confusion

philips norelco qt4070 beard trimmer bodyNow this is where some people are getting confused and mixed up when looking at the settings range in the Philips comparison table. Take a look in the Philips Norelco QT4070 vacuum beard stubble and mustache trimmer pro section. On there it states that the Length Setting Range is 1/2 mm – 10 mm and not the 1 millimeter to 18 millimeters sizes shown elsewhere on the Amazon sales page.

One reviewer has stated that the QT4070 now comes with the extra Contour Following Comb, the same as the QT4050 has. I have also referred to the Philips User manual where it states “The trimming combs cut hair to a length of 1/32 – 23/32 in (1 – 18 mm)” Note the plural, COMBS.

This manual that comes with these beard trimmers is full of all the information you will need to know about how best to use the trimmer as well as all the usual specs.

Model Differences

Philips Norelco QT4070

Philips Norelco QT4070

I think it’s best to get the differences in these two vacuum stubble and beard trimmers models out of the road first and formost.

Because personally speaking, for the sake of the $10 or so difference in price, for an item that will be used on a regular basis and over a long period of time, to me is of little consequence.

Others might not feel this way, but here’s why I would always go for the slightly more expensive QT4070.

See more details of this beard trimmer here.

Although both the Philips Norelco QT4050 and the QT4070 have the same very handy vacuum feature, for the extra $10 you will have a beard trimmer with a travel lock and a turbo boosting feature. More importantly, is the charge time difference of 1 hour for the QT4070 against a charge time of 8 hours for the QT4050.

Travel Lock Feature

The travel lock might not make much difference to those who don’t intend to do any travelling, but it can avoid the situation of  arriving at your destination with a trimmer that has a rundown battery.

There is nothing more annoying than having traveled to attend an important meeting or a special occasion and not being able to look your best. Simply because your trimmer has switched itself on during your journey and run the battery down.

Ah, but it has the corded as well as the cordless feature I hear you say! Well that’s right enough, but how many times have you went away and left something important behind. Something like the power charging cord for your beard trimmer perhaps? That’s when you might wish you had chosen the model with the travel lock feature.

Turbo Booster

One of the main complaints you will hear about beard trimmers, the same as you will read about other types of trimmers found on this site and that is the lack of power.

With hedge trimmers as an example, if the power isn’t there, it results in tearing and chewing at the hedge creating a very poor finish. The same goes for a beard trimmer. Low power can cause hairs to be pulled out rather than being trimmed to the required length as a good beard trimmer does.

Certainly for those with a tough beard to cut, this extra power will be very welcome. Not only that, but with more power the job can be completed that much quicker.

The turbo power also boosts the vacuum feature by increasing the fan speed, meaning less messy hair to clean up afterwards.

Charge up Time

Providing you have always remembered to keep the batteries charged up, the 8 hour wait to charge the battery shouldn’t prove too much of a problem. That’s if you preferred to use the Qt4050 without the cord always being attached.

Philips Norelco QT4070 and QT4050 Similarities

Apart from the QT4070 and the QT4050 both having the vacuum beard trimmer feature mentioned above, there are other excellent features common to both the models which are:

1) No maintenance required

2) Lithium Ion type battery

3) Precision zoom lock

4) 50 minutes running time from fully charged batteries

5) Both can be used with the cable attached or used as cordless

6) Manufacturer’s warranty of 2 years

7) Settings range from – 1 millimeter to 18 millimeters or if you prefer – 1/32 inch to 23/32 inch.

Users Reviews and How They Rated the Philips Norelco QT4070

From the 710 users who have left their reviews, a large amount of them have been positive. That being said, the 3.9 star rating (maximum of 5) doesn’t properly reflect that. Personally I like to see ratings of 4 and above.

In this case, circumstances regarding Philips failure to supply the proper combs with this beard trimmer  initially has led to a good few reviews being negative.

This has obviously pulled down the rating figures and now that they resolved this situation by supplying two combs, people have changed their minds.

All of the latest Philips Norelco Qt4070 reviews have been rave reports about this model and if the trend continues, it won’t be long before this trimmer reaches its rightful rating figures.
