When thinking about a waterproof beard trimmer many people imagine something more like a razor with a replaceable blade. They never imagine that an electric beard trimmer could possibly be classed as being waterproof.
Probably this thinking comes from what we are taught about “water and electric don’t mix”. Nothing wrong with the advice at all, but there are numerous occasions that we use water and electricity at the same time, such as boiling water in a kettle, on the cooker and in washing machines.
These are all controlled situations designed very much with safety in mind. The electric beard trimmers that we are talking about here are cordless which are rechargeable and/or use batteries; they are not plugged directly into the mains when in use with water.
They can be rinsed in water or in some cases, used in a shower. Benefits are, they are easier to clean the stubble out of the trimmer and also leave a cleaner area when trimming the beard. More beard trimmer reviews other than waterproof versions, can be found at this link.

Bear in mind that some models are only suitable for rinsing the trimmer head out in water and others are suitable for full immersion. We will use the terms total and partial here to save any confusion. Know what your requirements are when making your choice.
Here is a selection of the best5 waterproof beard trimmers that I recommend you have a look at. There certainly are others that you may prefer, although this list comprises of ones that I have short-listed as the best, due to them also having good reviews from actual users.
Of course new models will be coming out all the time and will no doubt have all the latest technology. If you have preferences and knowledge of these latest models of waterproof beard trimmers, or indeed wish to make comments of any kind, feel free to mention them in the comments section below. I’m sure everyone would appreciate it.
Panasonic Milano Series ER-GB40-S Waterproof Beard Trimmer

Rechargeable and comes complete with the charger which features a red charging indicator light. Also in the package are 3 comb attachments with cleaning brush as well as a WER9606P replacement blade.
After a charge of 15 hours the trimmer should have a full charge that will last for up to 50 minutes.
The settings range from 1 mm up to 10 mm via the 19, 0.5 mm increments using the quick adjustable dial.
Review figures for the Milano Series ER-GB40-S beard trimmer average out at 4.1 from 5 stars left from 250 of the previous purchasers who left their opinions.

There are 226 reviews left for the QG3280 and has a good 4.1 from 5 stars.
Philips Norelco QG3380/42 Multigroom Pro
Indeed as one commenter to our site has pointed out, “They both seem to do very much the same thing, but have a rather gigantic price difference”
Both are certainly waterproof beard trimmers and come with many attachments for trimming the various areas of hair. Taking a closer use we can see that there is indeed one main difference.
Looking at the battery used with the Philips Norelco QG3380/42 there is no mention of what type it uses other than the statement “Its high-performance battery provides superior charge and run time compared to standard NiMH batteries”
So I take it that the battery type is indeed NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride). The battery type used in the Philips Norelco QG3280 is the more modern Li-Ion (Lithium-Ion battery). These are generally more expensive when they are installed.
Apart from the battery type difference, I don’t see too much of a difference in what they can do, even the charge and run time are the same.
Philips Norelco QG3280 – 1 hr Quick-Charge and gives – 50+ mins Running Time
Philips Norelco QG3380/42 – 1 hr Charge time and gives – 50+ mins Running Time
No difference in these figures so that leaves it down to whether you would want the more advanced Li-Ion battery or go with the less expensive NiMH version.
Reviews left by users are about the same although the Philips Norelco QG3380/42 has 137 reviews left whereas the Philips Norelco QG3280 has 247 reviews left. See more details about the QG3380/42 here.
Gillette Fusion Proglide Styler 3-In-1 Beard Trimmer
The Gillette Fusion Proglide Styler is at the opposite end of the price spectrum from the previous trimmer, the Philips Norelco QG3280. The Proglide Styler featured here is the least expensive of my recommended units. So let’s take a look at what it provides the users.
Firstly let me say that you generally get what you pay for and although this is a cheaper option, it will still do the job of trimming your beard while at the same time it is waterproof. Reviews are in the whole very good although it does seem to have its limitations.
I think in the main, it would do the job fine as long as it was being done on a regular basis. Letting your facial hair get out of control for long periods and then attacking it with the Proglide Styler 3-In-1 might be pushing things too far.
The price of the Gillette Fusion Proglide is the main reason for me including it to my list. It means that anyone who wanted to start growing a beard need not be put off by the price of keeping it in trim.
As mentioned above, the reviews are mixed, but the ratings are high, receiving 4.5 stars from 5 with 1,993 users leaving a review. Read the reviews for a broader insight at this link.
Panasonic Wet and Dry Trimmer Model ER224S
The final choice of waterproof beard trimmers is the Panasonic wet and dry trimmer model number ER224S. Not just used as a beard and mustache trimmer as the ER224S is again suitable for using in the shower for trimming any area of body hair.
With an 8 hour battery charge up the battery will operate for up to 40 minutes. This wet dry beard trimmer features stainless steel blades which are spring loaded and won’t need to be continually adjusted by the user. Those who have sensitive skin will be pleased to know that skin irritation is also cut to a minimum due to the hypoallergenic blades.
The Panasonic ER224S doesn’t have as many components as some of the other waterproof beard trimmers. What is does come with are of course the trimmer, battery charger, brush to clean ant stubborn hair of and the trimming bade oil.
Again with this trimmer there is no mention of which battery type is used. Doing a search I have discovered that it uses a nickel cadmium battery.
Partial Waterproof Beard Trimmers
These are the models listed in the partial waterproof section which are the Philips Norelco QG3270 and the Braun Cruzer 5.
Philips Norelco Beard Trimmer Model G3270 – Partial Waterproof
Philips call this trimmer the Multigroom Pro due to the functions it can perform. The grooming functions are: hair, beard and moustache trimming using 4 of the 5 supplied fittings.
These are the hair clipper, the mini shaver, the detailing trimmer used for precision cuts, the 9 position hair comb and another similar comb used for beard and moustache trimming. There is a separate fitting used for the ears, nose and eyebrows.
Hair and beard can be trimmed to your preferred length using any of the 9 settings via the combs. For a stubble style of beard, use the lowest setting or remove the comb altogether.
It uses a Lithium-Ion battery which takes 1 hour to become fully charged and will run for 50 minutes.
With 178 reviews left so far for the QG3270 beard trimmer, the average works out at 3.8 out from the stars maximum. Read more at the link above.
Braun Cruzer 5 – Partial Waterproof Beard Trimmer
I find it difficult to class this one as being in the total waterproof class or the partial category, so how are potential customers supposed to know how to use and clean the trimmer without the possibility of totally ruining it.
One statement they make states, “Fully washable under running water” then further down the page you read something like “Rinse the shaving head under running water”. Which is true?
Fully washable usually means that you can safely run the whole unit under water or even be able to use it in a shower. Stating that you should rinse the shaving head under running water, tells me NOT to run the trimmer body under water!
For this reason I have listed it under the partial waterproof category, if you know otherwise, let us know. There is no mention of this from reviewers, which is pretty poor in any case. It’s rated at 3.3 stars from 5 stars from the 82 users.
The Braun Cruzer 5 is not one that I would recommend but it does give you an example of what you have to be aware of when shopping for items online.
Not only the point that I mentioned about the trimmer being waterproof because it doesn’t get any better. Those who do purchase this item and inadvertently destroy the motor with water may not have any recompense.
Nowhere on the sales page do I see any mention of a guarantee or a warranty of any time period. Buyers beware!
Comparison Table ofWaterproof Trimmers
